 The French government's projecting the cartoon Prophet was a response to a teacher who was murdered by an Islamic terrorist for showing the cartoon in class (I believe it was a class on the Charlie Hebdo attacks in 2015). when stuff like this happens, it's never a case of someone just minding their business casually, seeing something that triggers them and then going to cut someone's head off. this has been a thing that's been festering for a long time and the whole cartoon is most likely just a good excuse that they hoped would at least somewhat rally people behind their deed.
