 I didnt own Sonic3 but I owned Sonic & Knuckles, when I was a kid, me and everybody who played it always died in Sandopolis Act 2 because we couldn't get out of the infinite loop, if we didnt die by the ghosts then by time out. I never did make it past that barrel with the traditional way, only once when Sonic and Tails were jumping on it and making it go up and down so high I was able to run through the gap (I thought this is what you had to do). The other times, the barrel would get so high with Tails on it he would die, and occassionally his sprite glitched so bad once he came back and his ears were acting as propellers instead of his Tails! (Or at least that's what the glitchy sprite made it look like).
